Richard Raffan Turned Wood Bowl

$250

Beautiful vintage turned wood bowl signed by the artist.

Richard Raffan is best known as a writer and teacher, for his books, videos, and magazine articles, as well as for demonstrations and hands-on workshops.

But this notoriety came upon him in the mid-1980s on the back of a reputation established in the crafts in Britain in the 1970s, well before woodturning took off as the popular hobby and aspiring art form it is today, and before he moved to Australia in 1982.

Jarrah timbers reflect the hues of the Western Australian landscape. The heartwood varies in colour from rich reds to browns, while sapwood ranges from a pale yellow to orange. The texture of the timber is moderately coarse and even-textured grain, although some interlocked, wavy grain may feature, creating interesting fiddle-back figure. This makes it an appealing architectural and design material.

15" diameter X 2 3/4" tall
